Using the guidelines set forth by the FHWA, in order to receive funding through the NEVI Program, potential sites will have to meet a set of requirements that will include:
Must be less than 1 miles from a highway or interstate that is an Alternative Fuel Corridor
Ability to support the infrastructure of at least four 150kw ports (i.e. power grid capacity and broadband access) and assure long-term operation and maintenance
Provide amenities including, but not limited to, public restrooms, lighting, and ADA access
Foster public-private investment
Idaho is setting a goal to have stations be at most 50 miles apart, but exceptions can be made on a case-by-case basis.
Additional criteria specific to Idaho outlined in the Siting, Feasibility, and Access Study (SFAS) will also help determine the prioritization of site hosts. To view the SFAS, please see the resources located above.

Round 1 of funding will focus on key transportation corridors identified in Idaho's strategic plan near Lewiston, ID; Bliss, ID; and Pocatello, ID. Round 1 is expected to open for applications in early 2025. Specific dates will be announced at a later time.

Awarded projects will receive 80% of costs for infrastructure, operations and maintenance through reimbursements from a federal grant. Site owners are responsible for the remaining 20% of the cost. No state taxes or general fund dollars contribute to NEVI in Idaho.

Currently, there are four NEVI-compliant charging stations in the state. These stations were in planning or were built prior to the creation of the NEVI Formula Program, but meet requirements set by the FHWA to be considered a part of the overall plan of interconnected stations across the US.
-
Round 1 of site solicitation will help provide the State of Idaho with critical information about the cost of installing, operating and maintaining charging stations.

Yes. EV charging stations must comply with ADA and Section 504 requirements and be accessible to and usable by individuals with disabilities, including those using wheelchairs or other assistive equipment. Key considerations include safety and ease of use. Specifically, designs for EV charging stations must ensure adequate space for exiting and entering the vehicle, unobstructed access to the EV charging stations, free movement around the EV charging stations and connection point on the vehicle, and clear paths and close proximity to any building entrances.
